UP Wins 2007 UAAP Cheerdance Competition

UP Pep Squad.

To wash away the pain of having a men’s basketball team that couldn’t steal a single win out of 14 games, destiny smiled upon the UP Pep Squad by giving it the top spot in this year’s UAAP Cheerdancing Competition. Winning with the smallest of margins, UST’s Salinggawi Dance Troupe somehow handed UP the championship when one of its pyramid formations failed early in their routine. I wouldn’t be surprised if UST won if not for that costly mistake. Okay lang yun, ga. 😉

This year’s basketball tournament would best be remembered for UE’s fantastic run, sweeping the elimination round with 14 wins, a feat only once achieved, by the 1993 UST Growling Tigers. And since UP won the cheerdancing contest, let’s not discuss further the other 14–game sweep. Seriously.

Yesterday afternoon, I saw the final minutes of the Ateneo–La Salle semifinal basketball game. The Green Archers finally won after losing their first two meetings against the Blue Eagles in the eliminations.

La Salle?

From the look of things, they desperately needed to forget this “little booboo” and a victory over Ateneo is a fitting coverup. Nice job.

Peace. 😉

By the way, the wonderful photos are from Mimi and Karl, though I know they were all shot by Mimi with Karl’s new Canon EOS–40D. Karl was unsurprisingly preoccupied in the sidelines. 😛

  1. UP Pep Squad, astig! It’s the best cheerdance I’ve seen so far. hehe. Yung sa DLSU naman, waah. My friend and I cringed when they misspelled that thing. Sayang. ok na sana. hehe.

  2. @dhonjason: Yep, magagaling yung routines ng top 3, it boiled down to the judges’ preferences na lang, saka dun sa mga mistakes or miscues.

@Juned: Dude, that was ages ago. Hehehe. Nung panahon mo yata nasa grade school pa si Paras saka si Magsanoc… 😛

@Joni: Dati na talagang magaling ang UP Pep Squad, gumagaling lang yung mga iba recently kaya di na ganun ka-dominating. Yung sa DLSU, yun yung version nila ng “wardrobe malfunction” ni Janet Jackson. Hehehe.

  3. Finally, I don’t have to shut up and go to sleep everytime my cousin prattles on about UE’s spotless run.

Re: La Salle – I know his back is turned to the camera but I’m sure the guy on the left foreground’s got a bewildered look on his face.

  4. Markku, Maagan naman ang retirement age sa sports. Gumaganti ka . Dapat talaga ang matanda ay mapagbigay sa mga nakakabata o sa batang isip 🙂

  5. Ga, ok lang. Kahit UP PEP Squad ang champion this year, the best pa rin sa akin yung performance ng Salinggawi (syempre love your own…hehe). We’ll just try again next year 🙂

Buti na lang di na nakuhanan yung mali sa logo ng la salle…sayang ang props, ehehe (peace!)

  6. @Eugene: Dude, you are cruel. Hehehe. Seriously, with the complexity of cheerdancing routines, it doesn’t take much to commit mistakes like that. But still… 😉

@Trebs: Tumpak! The guy on the foreground probably never opened his eyes until he was inside the lockers. 😛

@Juned: Opo manong, tama po kayo. Hehehe.

@hana: Ga, I don’t care about next year, kasi malamang suntok sa buwan na yung mangarap ng back–to–back. Kahit manalo na lang ng isang game yung men’s basketball next year, pwede na yun. Hehehe.

  7. potah, wala talagang kwenta basketball team ng up. kaya magaling yung cheering squad e, para may ganahan naman daw magcheer sa mga nanunood. buti na lang di ako nakakanood ng games dito sa desyerto. lousy. maybe next year…

  8. @ the UP PEP SQUAD
