Bad browser sniffing

While reading reviews of retro air jordans at Kicksology, I clicked on a link to air-jordans.com but couldn’t get in using my Mozilla Firebird 0.6. The site was sniffing my browser incorrectly, thinking it was some old browser before IE4 or NN4. Mozilla also can’t access the site. Bad browser redirection script? It’s a personal site, so probably the owner used a freely available script with some faulty browser identification logic.
Come to think of it, if only browser makers focused on standards support several years ago, then browser sniffing need not be invented at all.
