Let there be light

I just finished reading this great set of articles from Strobist, a great resource–in–a–weblog for shooting with portable hotshoe flashes. Though I’ve been shooting with a Canon EOS D60 and a Sigma EF500 DG Super for almost a year now, I feel I’m severely lacking in skill in flash photography. I just wrote about taking good photos with a flash in my photography blog and was overwhelmed with all the technical stuff I didn’t know before. Now I can’t wait to try the things I just read.

  1. markku, ok tong strobist, i’ve been reading it for quite a while na rin (since the day he featured the Holga EOS article at litratista). I bought my starter starving student off camera light kit from a local store and the results were amazing.

this weekend I’ll be doing my “background bootcamp” and take my kit with me. so far di pa ako nakakabili ng better flash, hopefully makabili rin ako ng 500 DG

As in ilaw talaga, tama ba?

If you’re getting a 500 DG, be sure to get the Super and not the ST.

  3. You’re on the short list (of 3) people that’ve made me think about wanting to get serious on photography when i saw those shots you took at the Peyups concert. Thanks for the heads up on strobist

  6. dude, basic umbrella, swivel & lightstand… ginagamit ko for “on location” portraits. so far so good… gaganda ng exposures 99% of the time pagka off camera lighting ang gamit ko on full manual mode.

sa gitara naman… just bought a lightsnake (guitar cable na USB yung kabilang dulo) galing… hooked up my 7-string to my powerbook… instant jamming sa garage band.

sa flashes naman, depende sa budget if I can afford one or two super DG’s ok din… or kung mapagbigyan ng budget… isang dynalite system. (built in na yung pocket wizard sa power source) and may free na pocket wizard na transmitter.

  7. jorge, I’ve heard that PRS guitars are very playable, sarap daw tugtugin. Baka worth the price, 😉 Mga 30k yata sya locally now.

kim, share mo naman shots mo with that setup. Baka kumuha din ako ng ganyan soon. Magkano lahat nagastos mo?

  8. @markku: sobrang sarap talaga tugtugin. was able to get my hands on a PRS while jamming with a friend’s band, and the action was superb. easier to bend than a les paul with (imo) better tone and looks 😉 wow, 30k? ang mga nakikita ko goes for around $1k-$2k eh. baka signature models cguro ung nakita ko. still, 30k is a sweet deal for a PRS.

  9. Jorge, yung nga naririnig ko, sarap daw talaga tugtugin. Sana masubukan ko soon. 😉 I think the 30k model is their entry–level line. It’s a set–neck design too but I think the high–end models use more exotic wood.

  10. jorge, markku, the PRS is an amazing piece of axework. napanood ko factory video ng PRS guitars… he was actually a carpenter who built his own guitars.. and no one would actually even try his guitar until Santana (not well known yet) gave it a try.

sobrang mahal ang PRS… konting mali lang sa paint and the whole guitar is sent to be shred with a table saw. they absolutely do not tolerate any form of imperfection. dream ko rin to own one.

i spent $50 on my lightsnake and it does not require drivers for the mac. pero it comes with drivers for windows. sure i’ll take it with me pag umuwi ako (maybe next year, who knows)

the dynalite is kinda expensive… mga $2000-$3000 for a basic kit. ang total kong nagastos for my current lighting setup is $100. hopefully madagdagan ko pa ng flashes. tingnan mo sa strobist assignments set ko sa flickr.

  11. Ganun ka-lupit ang production ng PRS? Cool.
