Umaaraw, Umuulan

Hindi mo maintindihan
Kung ba’t ikaw ang napapagtripan
Ng halik ng kamalasan
Ginapang mong marahan ang hagdanan
Para lamang makidlatan
Sa kaitaas-taasan, ngunit

Kaibigan
Huwag kang magpapasindak

Kaibigan,
Easy lang sa iyak

Dahil wala ring mangyayari
Tayo’y walang mapapala
Wag mong pigilan ang pagbuhos ng ulan

May panahon para maging hari
May panahon para madapa
Dahil ang buhay natin ay sadyang ganyan

Umaaraw, umuulan
Umaaraw, umuulan
Ang buhay ay sadyang ganyan

Umaaraw, umuulan

Wag kang maawa sa iyong sarili
Isipin na wala ka nang silbi
San’ dambuhalang kalokohan

Bukas sisikat ding muli ang araw
Ngunit para lang sa may tiyagang
Maghintay…

Kaibigan,
Wag kang magpapatalo
Kaibigan,
Itaas ang noo

It’s me on lyrics mode again, ripped right out of this page. My girlfriend recently pointed out how beautiful this song’s lyrics are. Rico Blanco is Rivermaya—good music. Even Bamboo will agree.

For my international readers (yes, all three of you!), this post doesn’t make any sense. Sorry.

  1. rico blanco is a music genius! he writes soulful music- very rare contemporaries could compare. To me, he is the definition of a songwriter.

“rivermaya is a hallowed ground” to me.

“muli na naman bang bubulagin ng isang nanunukso

  11. eG, YOU NEED TO GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT, The Rivermaya minus Bamboo released several albums prior to Liwanag Sa Dilim. All were successful, such as the multi awarded Free, the live album with Slapshock, Between the Stars and Waves, etc… Rivermaya is going strong while their contemporaries have all disappeared. Their Staying Power speaks for Rico’s ability as a frontman.

And pleaazee your argument is so elementary. No one ever said Rico sang all those songs you enumerated. Sure, Bamboo sang them, but he didn’t write them. RICO DID. No one discounts Bamboo’s contribution to the band’s success but Rivermaya’s rise to stardom was anchored on the beauty of their music and Rico gets the big chunk of credit for that. Why do you think Rico’s songs are revived so often? By artists ranging from The Apo to Regine Velazquez to Luke Mejares. Because they’re timeless songs, that’s why. Which only goes to show that they’re such beautiful songs that they have transcended even the band itself.

If it was Rico who left Rivermaya, the band would have broken up immediately. No doubt.

No one is claiming that Rico is a superior singer than Bamboo. But surely he is better than some people give him credit for. The man can sing. And oh boy, can he write superb music.

And haven’t you noticed that Bamboo up to this very day, still sings Rico Blanco songs? Umalis na sa Rivermaya, bumuo na ng sariling banda at lahat, pero kinakanta pa rin ang mga awit ni Rico.

The problem with some people is, they seem to think that putting down today’s Rivermaya will even change the sweet truth that RICO BLANCO IS A MUSICAL GENIUS, AND WHOEVER SAYS OTHERWISE MUST EITHER BE DEAF OR JUST PLAIN STUPID.

I am glad for whatever success Bamboo is enjoying, but to his fans, please spare Rivermaya and Rico the insults. Rivermaya has managed to stay in the mainstream much longer than any other band from the 90?s could. To stay 11 years in the thick of things is an admirable and an exceptional feat. If Bamboo can match that, then well and good, but until then, until the time that they have managed to stay for over a decade- Bamboo fans should not make insinuations that Bamboo is more successful than Rivermaya because that is like saying that Kobe Bryant is better than Michael Jordan. Just because someone or some people are popular today doesn?t mean they?re the greatest. Only history will tell. And as far as the facts are concerned, Rivermaya has raised the bar for band music. As the best song writer of his time, Rico creates timeless masterpieces that knows no boundaries, no limits.
