Five on Friday: Surprise Date Spots

Patapat Coastal Bridge, Ilocos Norte. 2004.

I’m running late as we’re leaving for Pangasinan in less than an hour. Yes, this entry’s missing my regular Five on Friday post by a few minutes, so this better be good.

So let’s talk about dating. Specifically, little date spots you can take your sweetest thing to, on a whim, in the spur of the moment.

  1. Moomba Mother Ignacia St. near Roces Ave.
Jobarclix will kill me for sharing this. Moomba is this nice restaurant/bar at the end of Mother Ignacia Street, almost where it intersects with Roces Avenue. On weekdays, various local indie acts play relaxing music for most of the evening, setting the perfect mood for couples and friends just passing the night away.

It’s quite hard to explain, but the ambiance of this place is so perfect for a nice date. The music’s not too loud, the food is good — all you need is your perfect company for the night. In fact, this place has a lot of history among our friends that it seems a relationship cannot start without passing the Moomba stage. πŸ˜‰

  2. Dencio’s Ayala Heights, Balara
Now how can a Dencio’s branch be romantic? This one’s different though: it’s on top of a building overlooking the Capitol Hills gold course, where you get a bird’s eye view of the posh subdivisions nearby and of course, Marikina Valley. This without driving to Antipolo or Tagaytay.

  3. Chocolate Kiss Bahay ng Alumni, UP–Diliman
This should be a cliche for most UP–Diliman grads, but this place is still fancy enough for a quick dinner. The food is very good, especially their famous cakes! If you’re in luck, there are days when a guitar duo plays live classical music, and if luck is raining down on you, a piano–violent duet. Who knows, maybe they could play your (and your partner’s) cheesy theme song. And this just within UP, less than an hour’s drive from anywhere in Metro Manila.

  4. Starbucks Tagaytay
If you’re buying the girl of your dreams a cup of coffee, it might as well be special, right? Take her to Tagaytay! This line still makes me smile: “Coffee naman tayo, sa Starbucks — sa Tagaytay.”

  5. Boracay Philippines
You’ve got to have a lot of madness in your mind to pull this off: pack a backpack of clothes for you and your girl and fly off to Boracay for a getaway weekend! Just sit by the shore and watch the last light of day tell the story of the picturesque Boracay sunset. As night falls and the full moon shines upon the oneness of the two of you, dream the night away.

Now I sound cheesier than queso de bola. It’s either I’m sick or I’m in love. Or maybe I just need a good excuse for a late Five on Friday post. I don’t know, you tell me. And do share your date ideas, okay?

But wait, we all know it isn’t really the place but the company, right? That I’m sure of. Really.

  1. ItÒ€ℒs either IÒ€ℒm sick or IÒ€ℒm in love.

    Ano nga ba? ;P

    Ma-try nga yang Dencio’s sa Ayala Heights…

  2. Masilip nga ang Moomba’s. Hehehe.

I love the ambiance of Jack’s Loft in Eastwood City. Very intimate. πŸ™‚

I disagree about Starbucks Tagaytay. That particular branch is so-so as far as Starbucks branches go. It’s just that it overlooks Taal Lake, along with all the other restaurants on the same lot. I think Sonya’s Garden is better.

  3. nakakamiss ang chocolate kiss πŸ™‚ especially the bottomless iced tea. i like cafe ysabel in ortigas. ambiance is incredibly cozy and the food is fantastic.

  4. Gourmet’s in Silang is a good place, too! The place looks like an old Spanish house. Try dining al fresco surrounded by potted herbs and trees. Gawd. It’s romantic even in late afternoons.

    Great food. Awesome service. πŸ™‚

  6. My favorite “immediate” date place would be Taste of LA , near Tomas Morato. Dim lights, a rose on the table, great food, purrfect πŸ™‚

  7. i’ve been to moomba pre last year.. and i have to agree it’s one of the perfect place to bring your date. and during the weekdays or after office hours, it’s the place you need to be if you’re looking to unwind from the hard day’s work.. =)

  8. hello marcoux (markku) ! im hana’s friend, just wanna make a comment on ur blog, if u dont mind. (coz hana told me its okay)

i must say, i am really fascinated and impressed huh, especially with the shots… pangarap ko yan eh, di ko lang maisakatuparan (and i dont know why!)

anyway, i will try to go to Moomba or that Dencio’s on the roof top =) i’ll just cross my toes and hope my date will love it (or else!)

and another thing, i need some help with something, i need to make a website for our faculty journal, and i dont have the slightest idea…i could really use some help =)

thanks bro. please tell hana i miss her. God bless!

  9. Ò€œCoffee naman tayo, sa Starbucks Ò€” sa Tagaytay.Ò€

Yeah! I love Starbucks Tagaytay! Patok yang “line” mo, Markku. Kse bumenta saken yan. Hehehe!

Favorite date spot naman namen ay sa Cyberzone at computer/gadget stores sa malls. We’re a “couple” of geeks. LOL.

  10. @benj: Dami pala nating vacation mode!

@mimi: Alam mo naman yung sagot dyan di ba? πŸ˜‰ Di nga, di nyo pa nata-try? Ganda dun.

@Eugene: So sino dadalhin mo sa Moomba? Si K****? Hehehe. I’m not sure if I’ve been to Jack’s Loft Eastwood before, but might have. Sonya’s is better, maybe, but not everyone likes to have an all-veggie deal.

@nanet: I’m lucky that I still get the chance to visit choc kiss once in a while. πŸ™‚ Syempre laging bottomless iced tea! Now how come I’m not familiar with cafe ysabel? Where’s that exactly? I’d love to try that.

@Sasha: I’ll try that, but you have to teach me how to get there! πŸ™‚

Julianna: Thanks! I’ll keep that in my upcoming list since Tomas Morato is not so far from our usual route… πŸ˜‰

@sherwin: Dami stories yang moomba pre, lahat ng chicks ni joey na-date nya dyan… hehehe.

@chuchay: Hello! Hana never fails to talk about you! Hehehe. I’m glad you like my photography, pag kinasal I hope you get me as your photog. Hahaha! You can’t go wrong with moomba or that dencio’s branch, promise. =) Sige I’ll try to help you with your site. God bless din. πŸ™‚

@Joni: Actually bumenta din yang line na yan nung sinubukan ko dati, hehehe. Hahaha, cyberzone shopping, I can relate! πŸ˜‰

  11. Yuf. I was with my orgmates in Tarlac (wow, vacation destination lololol) for the Philippine Intercollegiate Debate Championship tapos nagkayayaan papuntang Hundred Islands.

Have you tried going there? You’ll have a field day with all the shots you can take. We tried swimming from island to island… It wasn’t a good idea. Some of us nearly drowned. hahaha

  12. Benj, yeah we were at the hundred islands, though none of us were good enough of a swimmer to try what you and your friends did. πŸ™‚ I got good photos though still haven’t posted them, yet!

  13. You’re the only one who has given us a reply other than “Ang tanga tanga nyo, ba’t nyo naman naisipan yun?!”

    Thanks.

    I’ll wait for the pics.

  14. Hahaha! If I was a good swimmer I would’ve tried it. I’m sure my dad would’ve given it a try considering some islands are really close to each other, though most of them do not have beaches…
